Mike He Signs With TVB Becoming A Threat To The Four TVB ‘Siu Sangs’

Caption: BOSCO WONG | Age: 25 | Height: 5′9″ | Weight: 160lb | Selling Point: Playful character, talent in humour | His Response: “I think Mike He is tall and pretty good looking, but I’m not worried about being compared to him. I will try my hardest doing my part. Besides, my wish is to be recognized for skill [and not for looks].”

Last year, through the adaptation of manga “Devil Beside You” 《惡魔在身邊》, Mike He’s popularity grew immensely in Taiwan. Earlier, TVB secretly invited him to Hong Kong for two days to meet with the production department’s two senior executives, Tsang Lai Jun (曾勵珍) and Leung Ka Sue (梁家樹). It was said that TVB had already signed this 22-year-old to film series in Hong Kong, posing a huge threat to the heavily promoted ‘Four Main Siu Sungs’ - Ron Ng Cheuk Hei (吳卓羲), Kevin Cheng Ka Wing (鄭嘉穎), Bosco Wong Chung Chak (黃宗澤), and Raymond Lam Fung (林峰).

Ever since they become popular, the work of heavily promoted “Four Main Siu Sungs” never stopped, filming series after series. TVB even had intentions of pushing them into the music and movie industry to become multi-talented artistes. However, because each of them are already overloaded with work, in order to add some new faces, TVB has no choice but to look outside of Hong Kong.

Curently only 22-year-old, Mike He already has the advantage in age. Earlier, the Beijing News held a “China’s 50 Most Beautiful Men” poll, and Mike He placed 5th, winning against Takeshi Kaneshiro (金城武), placing top among Taiwanese artistes.

In “Devil Beside You”, Mike He had plenty of kissing scenes with many actresses, and was selected by Mainland fans as the “Best Sexual Fantasy Icon”. He was also recognized to be a great kisser. His other series “Express Boy” 《惡男宅急電》 was aired in Japan earlier, where he was noticed by Bae Yong Joon’s Japanese manager. Hence, he will be entering the Japanese market as “Bae Yong Joon’s Junior”.

This wave of emerging Taiwanese idols cannot be neglected. After F4 from “Meteor Garden” 《流星花園》, Matthew Min and Mike He from “Prince Who Turns Into A Frog” 《王子變青蛙》, there is still Dylan Kuo from “The Outsiders” 《鬥魚》 and Joe Cheng from “It Started with a Kiss” 《惡作劇之吻》. It was heard that when TVB had plans to air “It Started With a Kiss” on paid television, many Joe Cheung fans called and wrote to TVB to complain, begging for this series to be aired on the Jade Channel. In order to calm the public rage, TVB intends to air the series on the Jade Channel sometime next year.

In Taiwan, TVB long had their eyes on Mike He, and even signed him as an artiste under TVBS. It was said that TVB specially arranged for a him to visit Hong Kong so that he can meet senior executives Tsang Lai Jun and Leung Ka Sue. They even filmed clips of him in modern and ancient costumes at the Tseung Kwan O TV City in the hopes of finding him a suitable role in a future series.

TVB had their eyes set on the Mainland and Taiwanese market. Many future series will be filmed in collaboration with CCTV. Therefore, they plan to send their Taiwanese artistes, like Mike He, Justine Ji (紀文蕙), Lin Li Wen (林立雯), Lin Ye Wung (林逸宏) to Mainland China to expand their career, while Miss Chinese International Ina Lui (呂怡慧) is scheduled to work in Taiwan.

When verifying this with the associate director of the TVB resource department, Lok Yi Ling, she admitted that Mike He did indeed make a visit to Hong Kong earlier, but she denied any claims about TVB facing a scarcity of “Siu Sangs.” After all, every one of them are TVB artistes, and can be considered a big family. She hopes to provide more opportunities to them according to each of their strengths.
